Research, Education and Integrated Care in Clinical Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology
A scientific approach uniting mind, endocrine system and immune system for a new vision of health
Prof. Paolo Lissoni, born in Milan in spring 1954, is an Italian oncologist and endocrinologist internationally recognized for his pioneering research on the pineal gland and its role in cancer treatment.
Academic Background:
He received an award from the Washington National Cancer Institute for his pioneering research on the pineal gland. His unique approach integrates medicine and spirituality, laying the foundation for a new biopsychosocial vision of oncological care.

Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology (PNEI) is a scientific discipline that studies the interconnections between the nervous system, endocrine system, and immune system, demonstrating how mind and body are deeply connected through the chemical mediation of emotions and states of consciousness.
PNEI represents an integrated approach that recognizes the fundamental relationship between the endocrine, nervous, and immune systems. These three systems communicate constantly through signaling molecules (hormones, neurotransmitters, cytokines), creating a complex network of interconnections that regulates health and disease.
The integration of endocrinology, neuropsychiatry, and immunology is essential for understanding how psychological stress, emotions, and mental states directly influence immune function and disease progression. This paradigm transcends the reductionist view of conventional medicine.
Clinical PNEI, developed by Prof. Lissoni, represents the clinical application of these scientific principles to medical practice, particularly in oncology. This approach considers the patient in their totality - biological, psychological, and social - promoting therapies that modulate neuroendocrine-immune balance.
The Clinical PNEI association promotes research, education, and dissemination of this integrated approach to care, with particular attention to the role of melatonin and other endogenous molecules in maintaining health and modulating the antitumor response.
The PNEI Association addresses a broad and diverse audience of professionals and enthusiasts who wish to deepen their understanding of the connection between mind, body, and spirit:
Study of pineal gland (epiphysis) functions and its role in regulating biological rhythms and immune response. Prof. Lissoni's research has highlighted the importance of this organ in modulating tumor growth.
Research on the antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and oncostatic properties of melatonin. Clinical studies have demonstrated beneficial effects on the quality of life of cancer patients and in enhancing conventional therapies.
Analysis of the cytokine network (IL-2, IL-12, TNF) and their balance in the antitumor response. The PNEI approach aims to restore the cytokine balance altered in neoplastic diseases.
The PNEI Association regularly organizes conferences, seminars, training courses, and scientific meetings dedicated to Clinical Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology. Events are designed for physicians, researchers, healthcare professionals, and practitioners interested in deepening their understanding of this integrated approach.
The events calendar will be published soon. Stay updated to discover upcoming training and networking opportunities.
New events are being scheduled. Check back regularly to discover conferences, seminars, and training courses on Clinical PNEI.
Scientific meetings with international experts on Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology, melatonin, pineal gland, and clinical applications in oncology.
Structured educational programs for healthcare professionals who wish to acquire advanced skills in the PNEI approach and neuroimmunomodulation.
Prof. Paolo Lissoni is the author of over 700 peer-reviewed scientific publications indexed on PubMed and more than 33 books on PNEI and oncology.
His research has been published in high-impact international journals and has helped define the field of neuroimmunomodulation in oncology.
